Altru Chief Executive Officer Todd Forkel has joined the Community Violence Intervention Center’s volunteer board of directors. Forkel has been the CEO of Altru since 2022 and has more than 35 years of experience in executive healthcare management.
“Todd’s personal commitment as well as his vast leadership experience within the health care space are an ideal fit to assist CVIC in advancing its Safer Tomorrows Road Map, a long-term vision to end interpersonal violence,” CVIC President and CEO Coiya Tomkins Inman said. “ Todd is both passionate as well as results driven and he understands our work and the complexities surrounding domestic & sexual violence. His background and personal passions provide significant contributions for where we are headed as a regional and state leader of violence intervention and prevention.”
Throughout his career, Forkel has aimed to boost workplace culture, implement cost-saving measures, and improve the standard of care for military veterans. No matter where he’s landed—at Mayo Clinic, Avera Health or Essentia—Forkel has always hoped to improve outcomes for individuals facing trauma and abuse.
“Organizations like CVIC are a critical conduit in community health throughout the Grand Forks region,” he said. “Joining the board gives me the opportunity to participate in strengthening healthcare outcomes from a broader social lens that benefits those who might be hurting silently.”
Forkel said joining the CVIC board is personal, too.
“I didn’t grow up in the steadiest home. There was a lot of dysfunction around addiction growing up, and there wasn’t a lot of outside support yet either,” Forkel said. “So I feel that if we can do anything to promote a healing environment for people that find themselves in those situations, it’s to offer them an effective pathway to safety and recovery.”
Ultimately, Forkel hopes his tenure on the CVIC board will mean he leaves the organization, and the community, even better than he found it.
“Without our CVIC partners, we would not be able to deliver the holistic care that we desire to deliver,” Forkel said. “Not just from an individual level, but on a larger scale that positively impacts the health and well-being of future generations.”
