Zachary Tomczik joins CVIC board, bringing compassionate legal perspective and community connection

Grand Forks, N.D. — At Legal Services of North Dakota (LSND), Director of Pro Bono and Bar Engagement Zachary Tomczik helps connect vulnerable individuals to legal support when they need it.

Now, he’s bringing that expertise to the Board of Directors for Community Violence Intervention Center (CVIC) where he’ll lift up the mission with his compassionate perspective on justice for victims of domestic abuse and violence.

“Zachary’s compassion, engagement with our mission and expertise bring him alongside individuals and families navigating some of the most challenging moments of their lives, and he represents the kind of steadiness and humanity that matters so deeply in this work,” said Coiya Tompkins Inman, president/CEO of CVIC. “We are grateful to welcome him to CVIC’s board of directors, and for the perspective he brings as we continue this shared work of ending violence in two generations.”

Tomczik began his career working in juvenile treatment court, an experience that offered him a valuable perspective on how the legal system works for victims of violence and abuse.

“At-risk kids don’t always know they’ve done something wrong because their parents or guardians might not be positive models,” Tomczik said. “And sometimes, the parents or guardians grew up the same way. It’s the court’s responsibility to assist in breaking that cycle by offering compassionate legal services to the most vulnerable among us.”

In his role as Director of Pro Bono and Bar Engagement at LSND, Tomczik leads statewide efforts to connect attorneys with pro bono court cases so they can make a difference, too.

“My goal in this role is to help attorneys make a transformational difference in our communities using their expertise in court,” Tomczik said. “Being able to serve the people of Grand Forks and surrounding communities in this and other capacities is an incredible honor.”

Before joining Legal Services of North Dakota, Tomczik practiced at Rosenquist Law Office in Grand Forks, where he focused primarily on family law, criminal defense and juvenile matters. He is licensed to practice in both North Dakota and Minnesota and continues to serve as contracted counsel for the Grand Forks Juvenile Treatment Court.

Tomczik graduated from high school in St. Cloud, Minn., in 2015. He moved to Grand Forks to attend college where he earned a bachelor’s in Psychology in 2018 and his Juris Doctorate in 2022 from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.

In addition to his roles at LSND and CVIC, Tomczik serves on the boards for Empire Arts Center, the Grand Forks Community Land Trust, and the Global Friends Coalition. He is also a member of the Advisory Board for the Greater Grand Forks Young Professionals and Vice Chair of the Northern Valley Dem-NPL.
