The Need
Child abuse and neglect are among the most heinous crimes that occur, depriving a child of innocence and security and robbing future generations of a sound foundation upon which to build a healthy society.
While no child should ever have to suffer abuse or neglect at the hands of a parent, many children either want or are legally required to have contact with a parent who has been harmful to them in the past.
The court and foster care systems, in an effort to protect children while parents make attempts to improve their lives, often mandate that these parents be allowed only supervised visitation with their children.
In cases of spousal abuse, a batterer may use the children to further harass the victim after the couple separates, pressing them for information about or use them to carry hostile messages to the other parent.
A major obstacle for the courts, foster care agencies and concerned parents is the difficulty in finding willing and qualified supervisors that can ensure the safety of the children. Our Wishing Well Program fills a great need in our area.
