DELTA Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancement and Leadership Through Alliances – is an innovative, three-year national project designed to prevent first-time intimate partner violence in 14 states across the country. Federal, North Dakota state and local agencies are involved in DELTA.

Project Focus

Our local DELTA has focused on preventing first-time intimate partner violence among 18-24-year-old individuals, primarily students at the University of North Dakota and first-time airmen at the Grand Forks Air Force Base.  In 2006, we reached 467 UND students and 186 first-term airmen.

Also in 2006, we expanded our project to include dating violence prevention for local teens, reaching 590 youth in our first year.

Using national research to address primary risk factors and an educational curriculum entitled, "How to Avoid Marrying a Jerk(ette)," a local multidisciplinary team educates youth and young aduls on:

  • Qualities of healthy relationships.
  • Warning signs for abuse.
  • RIghts and responsibilities of partners within relationships.
  • Actual tools with which to assess their relationships.
