The Need
Each year, more than 1,000 people turn to CVIC for help in dealing with abuse, facing many obstacles in their efforts to break free of or heal from the violence. They often reach out to friends, family or professionals, only to find that their lack of understanding serves to further isolate them or increase the control their batterers have over their lives at a time when they desperately need community support. Education for the community, collaboration and intensive training for professionals who work with families impacted by abuse are vital to preventing and effectively intervening in cases of family violence, sexual assault, child abuse, stalking and related crimes.

People Served
Participants in our sessions include community groups, students, churches, educators, service organizations, medical professionals, businesses, law enforcement, child protection and human service professionals, the courts, 911 staff, military personnel and many others. Our program has also been an integral part of the Coordinated Community Response Project, a progressive, systems-wide collaborative effort that is raising community awareness of family violence and promoting a more effective community response. Training is ongoing and dynamic, used in conjunction with collaboration and problem solving, to hone the system's effectiveness in prevention and intervention.
