Program Goals
- Increase group participants' knowledge of domestic violence and their individual abuse of power and control.
- Hold participants accountable in group treatment and through encouraging and participating in a coordinated community response to domestic violence.
Services
- Intake sessions and assessments: Information gathered on battering history and need for other treatment, such as alcohol or substance abuse, and lethality assessments conducted.
- Group Treatment: Three, ongoing 27-session treatment groups utilizing a nationally acclaimed curriculum addressing key topics and activities designed to increase knowledge and change attitudes and behaviors. All activities are geared to help batterers accept responsibility for their actions, learn what abusive choices are and why they are not acceptable, and learn how to make respectful choices within their relationships.
- Accountability: Close collaboration with the States Attorney's Office and courts to ensure offenders ordered into treatment are held accountable for violating court orders or treatment contracts.
- Partner Safety: The safety of treatment group participants' intimate partners is addressed in each stage of assessment and during a period of group treatment.
