Today in our Greater Grand Forks neighborhoods, many live silently in fear, hurt by those who have promised to love them. Violence tears apart the fabric of family life and is causing our children to struggle to find hope for the future.

People Served
Many of the women, men and children we serve have been punched, strangled, slapped, raped, cut with knives, burned with cigarettes and thrown into walls. Others have been threatened that if they try to leave the relationship, they or a family member will be killed or they will never see their children again.

2007 Program Statistics

  • Family violence is the highest personal injury crime reported to the Grand Forks Police Department, with 611 offenses in 2005.
  • Over 850 local children live with violence in their
homes – the equivalent of about one in three of all the students attending public elementary schools in Grand Forks.
  • Our youngest client last year was 8 months old.
  • One in five local adults and children served last year for family violence became homeless.
  • Local people in danger made over 800 desperate calls to our crisis line at all hours of the day and night.
  • 1,165 adults and children received direct services, advocacy and/or information last year.
