If you have been raped by a friend, acquaintance, family member, stranger or anyone, we want you to know that nothing you could have said or done would ever give someone the right to sexually assault or abuse you. It was not your fault – no matter what. Some people who have been raped feel they should have struggled more or done something to prevent the rape. But consent to sexual contact is based on choice and equal power. Giving in because of fear is not consent. Going along with something because you were deceived or afraid to scream or struggle is not consent. Not objecting because of intoxication, age or mental or physical incapacity is not consent. If you can't say no comfortably, then yes has no meaning. You were not to blame. While most victims of rape or sexual assault are female, both males and females can be raped –- and both are served at CVIC. We at CVIC are here to listen, believe you, and provide options for your safety and well-being. There is hope. Please call us.
