"Being a volunteer is so rewarding. A caller once said to me, 'Thank you so much, all I needed was someone to talk to.' I realized that I may play a small part in all the services that CVIC provides, but I was there right when they needed me and it felt so good."

| Provide crisis intervention for individuals impacted by abuse and rape
- After office hours, volunteers carry a cell phone and answer calls on our 24-hour crisis line. Volunteers provide emotional support and referrals and, during a crisis, may contact law enforcement or meet with individuals at the emergency room. A staff member is always available by phone to assist or answer questions.
- A 24-hour training program is provided in the spring and fall to all crisis line volunteers to prepare them to respond to crisis situations. A staff member also provides ongoing feedback and support.
Provide supervised visitations and exchanges to ensure children's safety
- Volunteers assist professional staff in monitoring meetings between children and a visiting parent or guardian. Visitations are monitored by audio/visual equipment or in person in one of our three visitation rooms. Exchanges of children are coordinated to ensure the safe transfer of children from one parent to the other.
- Training is provided to all volunteers to equip them to serve children and their families. A six-month volunteer commitment is requested.
Help with special projects and office work
- Volunteers may assist with occasional projects as needed, including;
- Office work such as preparing mailings, making photocopies, filing and answering phones.
- General handy work, such as small repair or carpentry jobs.
- Running errands.
- Organizing our donations and client supplies.
Participate in special events or host a fundraiser
- Serve as a table captain for our annual Rise and Shine for Peace Breakfast in May. Table captains invite people to fill a table of 10 and encourage their guests to attend a Break the Silence Tour prior to our breakfast event.
- Invite friends to a Break the Silence Tour, one-hour tours that provide a firsthand view of CVIC's work to end violence in our community.
- Coordinate a fundraiser on CVIC's behalf, such as a benefit concert, shower for our shelter, bake sale, raffle, tournament or other activity.
